Lesson description

While the previous lesson focuses on the long-term causes leading to the outbreak of World War One, here we take a look at what happened once the dominoes of alliances, ententes, and rivalries were finally set into motion. But, was World War One unavoidable?

This lesson contains:

  • The chronology of key events of the 1914 July Crisis, from the assassination of Austria- Hungary’s Archduke Franz Ferdinand to Britain declaring war on Germany.
  • The vocabulary and terminology necessary to study the 1914 July Crisis and wider World War One history with confidence.
  • An analysis of which of the short-term causes were the most influential in leading Europe into World War One.
