Lesson description

The 20th century saw great change in a short space of time. How did we go from Suffragettes smashing windows in protest before World War One to 90s’ teens surfing the world wide web? Let’s find out with this whistle-stop tour of the 20th century.

This lesson contains:

  • An overview of the 20th century and the major events and characters that shaped its development, from Suffragettes fighting for voting rights to the creation of the internet.
  • A chance for students to debate the idea of ‘progress’ and debate how far the 20th century could be considered an era of progress.
  • Analysis of which events and moments were the most important and influential to the development of the 20th century.
