Lesson description
Since the first modern Olympic Games was launched in Athens in 1896, the mammoth sporting competition has brought countries all over the world head-to-head. As such, the Games provide a fascinating way to study the developments of 20th century history.
This lesson contains:
- A study of the most historically prominent modern Olympic Games since they began in Athens, Greece 1896 until Rio, Brazil 2016.
- An analysis of how much we can learn from the Olympic Games about the social and political history at that time, such as the civil rights movement and gender equality.
- A discussion around which modern Olympic Games is the most significant to the history of the 20th century and why.
