Lesson description
When Henry VIII chose to break from the Roman Catholic Church and establish the Church of England, in order to divorce his first wife Katherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn, he set in motion huge religious changes, the repercussions of which are still being felt today.
This lesson contains:
- A closer look at the best-known Tudor monarchs and the key developments under each of their reigns that effected the religion and politics of the country.
- An introduction to the English Reformation, the ways in which England’s official religion developed across the 16th century, and how these changes were felt by everyday people.
- An exploration of terms and concepts such as Catholic, Protestant, Church of England, Roman Catholic Church, and papal authority.
